Selecting Your Perfect Mattress
Updated: Jul 3
Hey readers! These next few days, we'll be posting the perfect guide on how to select your perfect mattress! Stay tuned for this series!
We all want mattress shopping to more simple, and it is if you have the necessary tools.
We created the following mattress guide to help make this decision process easier for you. The most important factors involved in choosing your perfect mattress are listed below.
1. Which picture is most like your body
2. Budget (You can’t sleep if you spent too much!)
3. Size of mattress (contrary to popular belief, size does matter!)
4. Who is the mattress for, do we like them, and how long do we want them to stay?
5. What is most important to you, the appearance of the mattress as far as no body indentations, or consistency in support.
6. What is most important, longevity or price.
7. Support (it is a combination of the base, coil (several different types), latex, foam, air, water, or polyurethane formations designed to be a mattress support system.
8. Agility or age.
9. Firmness on top.
10. Body Shape and Weight.
11. Mattress Type (this could change as you become more informed)
12. Sleep Positions.
It sounds like a lot but can be all figured with a few questions and a few movements, that only you know the answer to.
Mattress reviews, contrary to popular belief, are not good for much outside of the general quality of a product. As every person is different, what may be the perfect mattress for one, maybe horrible for another. Especially if they’re just comparing it to the mattress they had before, of course, a new one is going to feel better than one you hated! Six months later, these beds are usually back on Craigslist.
Like all things, knowledge is power, and educating yourself is the only way to have a better sleep.
Your budget is very important while keeping in mind most stores have no-interest financing options. However, you can’t sleep if you spent too much. The rest of the mattress experience is about fitting you (and I do mean you!) to the perfect mattress.
Avoid the misconceptions of mattress buying, by believing in yourself. Believe it or not, there is a lot of misconception out there amongst potential mattress buyers. They tend to believe that mattress firmness and support are the same things.
While they do directly correlate in finding the perfect sleep system and are mutually dependent, there’s a difference. The firmness of the bed is its hardness, put in a very simple way. Is it soft or is it hard? That’s the type of question that you need to ask yourself. It’s subjective and different sleepers will have a different feel.
Mattress firmness and support are two different things. The support comes from the core (coils, base foam, latex, etc.), while the firmness on top is crated from the comfort layers and how they react with the core. Please take note that we recommend a firm core with the perfect comfort layers on top.
Although there are online sites with elaborate stories to explain their mattress markup, there’s a far better and safer way to pick your mattress. Through Sealy, Simmons, Posturepedic, or Beautyrest, it’s far easier to do a price comparison to ensure that you are getting the best deal. These businesses truly support the backs of hardworking Americans, and they’ve done it since their inception.
