However, if you have a disability we are here to help you. Please call our disability services phone line at 1-503-328-8741 during regular business hours and one of our kind and friendly personal shoppers will help you navigate through our website, help conduct advanced searches, help you choose the item you are looking for with the specifications you are seeking, read you the specifications of any item and consult with you about the products themselves. There is no charge for the help of this personal shopper for anyone with a disability. Finally, your personal shopper will explain our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, and help you place an order if you so desire.

Just like proper diet and exercise, a great night's sleep is critical to your mental, emotional, and physical health. However, as much as we know about sleep and health most people do not get the seven to eight hours of sleep each night recommended by sleep experts. Sleeping on the best mattress for you or at least the right mattress is key. Our sleep guide offers simple ways to sleep better. We are going to help you learn when you need a new mattress, the sorts of mattresses available, the best size of mattress for you as well as other mattress shopping tips. At Sherri's Mattresses, we love it when you come back and tell us how we helped improve your day and better yet your life by improving the quality of your sleep.

How long does a mattress last?

Well, that depends on several factors:

  • Usage
  • Quality
  • You Personal Changing Comfort
  • Your Personal Support Preferences

Generally, a mattress set has been in use for five to seven years. At that point, most no longer provide proper comfort and support and should be evaluated. Many sleep studies have shown that after the age of 5 it does not matter age, weight, or size, there is a significant improvement in health and mood with a great mattress. That's why it always makes me sad when people say “it is just for my kid.” So it is important to compare yours as well as your child's mattress and boxspring/foundation, to ensure you're having the best sleep possible! Great sleep leads to a great day, everyday.

Is it time for a new mattress?

You might wonder if it is time for a new mattress if…
Even if it's worn like your favorite old chair or pair of shoes, your mattress can still feel comfortable long after it has lost its ability to provide your body with the proper comfort and support it needs. Here are a few things to consider when deciding whether it's time to buy a new mattress and boxspring/foundation:

  • Your Mattress Is Five To Seven Years Old
  • You Wake Up With Stiffness, Numbness, Aches, and Pains
  • You Had A Better Night's Sleep Somewhere Other Than Your Own Bed (such as a hotel or friend's guest room)
  • Your Mattress Shows Signs Of Overuse (it sags, has lumps, etc.)

The warranty on a mattress and foundation is not a timer for how long the product should be used before replacement. Instead, the warranty exists to protect the consumer from product defects, not against gradual loss of comfort and support.

Select a mattress.
Lie down in your typical sleep position.
Evaluate the level of comfort and support.
Educate yourself about each selection.
Partners should test beds together.

Remember, it is important to have an educated salesperson who can guide you through the many choices in bedding to help you find the mattress that best meets your personal preferences. Once in the store, be sure to “test drive” your new mattress following the S.L.E.E.P. test. Remove your shoes (if you're a woman, it's best to go mattress-shopping in jeans or pants) and lie down on several different models in various positions, especially the one you usually sleep in. And remember, those few extra minutes of focusing on the “feel” of different mattress choices can save a lot of time and sleepless nights later. Keep in mind as you test various mattresses that comparison shopping by model name may lead to frustration. You probably won't find exactly the same model name in one store as you did in another.

Guide your purchasing decision

  • For proper support, a mattress and foundation must support the body at all points with the spine in the same shape as a person with good standing posture.
  • Ask the salesperson if they can show you illustrated or actual “cutaways” of the interior of the different mattress and foundation choices so you can see what's inside.
  • Compare store services such as delivery, financing and removal of old bedding as well. Many retailers today offer mattress removal service as part of your purchase price or for a nominal fee.
  • Shop for the best value, not the lowest price. The best assurance for good mattress performance over many years is to buy the highest quality sleep set you can afford.
